Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), also known as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), adds an extra layer of security to your Layer4 account by requiring two different forms of verification when logging in.
Why Use MFA?
MFA significantly enhances your account security by:
- Protecting against password theft and brute force attacks
- Preventing unauthorized access even if your password is compromised
- Ensuring that only you can access your account, even if someone has your login credentials
Setting Up MFA in Layer4
- Open the "Manage Profile" modal in your Layer4 dashboard
- Navigate to the Security section
- Click "Enable 2FA"
- You'll be presented with two options:
- Scan the QR code using your authenticator app
- Manually enter the provided secret code into your authenticator app
Compatible Authenticator Apps
You can use any TOTP-compatible authenticator app, such as:
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
- 1Password
Using MFA When Logging In
Once MFA is enabled:
- Log in with your usual method (email/password or Google account)
- You'll be prompted to enter a 6-digit code from your authenticator app
- Enter the code to complete your login
The 6-digit code refreshes every 30 seconds in your authenticator app. Make sure to use the current code when logging in.
Disabling MFA
If you need to disable MFA:
- Open the "Manage Profile" modal
- Navigate to the Security section
- Click "Disable 2FA"
- Confirm your choice
Disabling MFA will reduce your account security. We recommend keeping MFA enabled for optimal protection.
