Wallets Overview
Layer4 provides blockchain wallets that help you manage your digital assets across different workspaces and use cases.
Types of Wallets
User Wallets
Each user can have one personal custodial wallet that's associated with their account. This wallet:
- Supports all EVM chains available on Layer4
- Is fully controlled by you
- Can be exported to use with other wallet services
Guests
Users without a Layer4 account can still have a wallet that:
- Has the same capabilities as regular user wallets
- Persists across guest sessions
- Can be used independently of Layer4 platform access
Workspace Wallets
Every workspace comes with a default wallet. Workspace owners can:
- Create wallet connections with users via email
- Manage wallet connections through the web app or API
- Send blockchain assets to connected wallets using email instead of public addresses
Wallet Features
Current Capabilities
- View wallet token balances and NFTs
- Export private keys for use in other wallet services
- Connect wallets to workspaces
Direct transactions are currently not supported within Layer4. To perform transactions, export your wallet to a service like MetaMask.
Workspace-Wallet Connections
Workspace owners can create wallet connections by:
- Inviting users via email
- Users receive an email with the connection request
- Users can approve or decline the connection
- Once approved, workspaces can send assets to the connected wallet using email
Security
Private Key Management
You can export your wallet's private keys in JSON format. When doing so:
- Keep your private keys absolutely secure
- Never share private keys with anyone
- Anyone with your private key has full access to your wallet
- Lost or compromised wallets CANNOT be recovered
Best Practices
- Export your keys only when necessary
- Store exported keys in a secure location
- Use trusted wallet services like MetaMask for transactions
- Keep your Layer4 account secure with MFA
Limitations
- One personal wallet per user
- Read-only functionality within Layer4
- No direct transaction capabilities
- No wallet recovery service
While wallets are primarily read-only in Layer4, you can easily export your wallet to services like MetaMask for full transaction capabilities.
